Plasma is commonly known as the fourth state of matter, it is also the most common state of matter in the Universe as Stars are made of plasma (hot ionised gases). The Plasma in these tubes is generated by passing high voltage electricity though the discharge tubes. Different patterns can be seen due to different pressures in the tubes from 40mmHg, 10mmHg, 6mmHg, 3mmHg, 0.14mmHg. I used this with my Yr.11 Physics class to introduce them to the States of Matter and Thermodynamics.

💡Light Intensity💡... Yr.11 Physics were tasked with how exploring how light intensity varies with distance from the source. We used a very simple method. We cut ✂️ a 1cm ✖1cm (1cm^2) hole ⬜ in one piece of paper 📄 to act like a window and then placed it a certain distance from a candle. .
We then placed a piece of grid paper at double that distance and saw how many squares it fell on. The class then observed that at twice the distance it fell on 2cm ✖ 2cm (4cm^2). The class now needs to think about what kind of relationship this is and deduce the equation for light intensity.

Is there anything in Nature as beautiful as a spectrum? My Yr.11 Physicists were investigating the dispersion of white light 💡through a triangular glass prism 🔼 into all the colours of the rainbow 🌈. This effect is caused by the different frequncies of light being slowed by different amounts and hence have different angles of refraction.
We then related this to Astronomy and the role that diffraction grating have in splitting up white light into different frequncies so that individual frequencies can be analysed by a spectrograph to determine many properties of stars. From chemical composition to rotational and translational velocity.

✨Fireworks Time🎆. Yr.10 Science exploring the rapid oxidation (combustion) of Ultra Fine Steel Wool 🔩🐑 using a 9V battery🔋. When the current passes through the steel wool it heats up due the steel wools high resistance, due to its very thin gauge. The reaction then continues down the steel wool due to the high temperature of the reaction between the iron and the oxygen in the air. This reaction makes Iron Oxide more commonly known as rust.
